IPL Photofacial Overview
Is your skin in need of rejuvenation? Are you bothered by age/sun spots, broken capillaries, or just the overall appearance of your skin? Lumenis® M22™ provides an Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatment—also known as a Photofacial treatment—designed to gently and effectively treat a wide range of skin conditions, including:
- Skin discoloration and blemishes (sun/age spots and freckles)
- Port wine stains
- Visible signs of aging
- Spider veins or broken capillaries
- Hemangiomas (a benign tumor of blood vessels that forms a red birthmark)
How Does M22 IPL Work?
IPL photo-rejuvenation technology treats pigmentation and vascular imperfections, while improving your skin’s overall appearance. Lumenis IPL with optimal pulse technology lets your physician customize your treatment to your skin type and the results you want.
Light pulses move through the skin, creating heat and targeting skin imperfections in a controlled way. The treated area then flakes off when your body goes through its natural and constant process of exfoliation. At the same time, collagen and elastic fibers are stimulated, which results in a visible improvement of your skin’s tone and overall appearance.
"Gifted Dr. Najera and his stellar team! - Having been inspired by the extensive and high quality online reviews of Dr. Najera's work, I decided to reach out to his team from my base in London, UK, and can honestly say that from the very outset, I have received nothing but the highest level of care and professionalism from the doctor and his staff. Needless to say, it was a substantial emotional and financial investment for me to..."- S.N. / RealSelf / Oct 15, 2018
"This is the place you need to go to. From the start with my pre-op with Jessica Benenate I felt at ease talking with her. They are all VERY informative and so friendly and personable. My surgeon, Dr. Najera, is one of the kindest people I have ever met. He is so professional and did an excellent job going above and beyond my expectations. I can't stress enough how important it is to have a board certified surgeon who knows what they are doing AND cares about their patient's final outcome. This is what you get with Dr. Najera. I am so lucky I chose the best place to get my surgery done."- L.R. / Google / Jan 17, 2019
"I couldn't be happier with my results from Dr. Najera! I was recommended to him by my mother who is the queen of research. And she was right about choosing him. The staff was always sweet and helpful. I'm sure I annoyed them with questions constantly, but they never made me feel anything but comfortable and cared about. Amber and Jessica were awesome. Dr. Najera always has a really positive attitude and is honest and clear about what to expect. He gave me exactly what I wanted and I am so thankful for him and his staff really listening to my wishes. Whenever it came to anything beauty on myself, I was never 100% pleased with the results. With Dr. Najera, I truly was. I would recommend him and go back in the future!"- K.M. / Google / Jan 11, 2019
"Excellent if I could give more than 5 stars I would. Honestly one of the best experience ever from staff to doctor 5 ??."- Y.G. / Google / Jan 09, 2019
"I can't say enough great things about Najera Cosmetic and Plastic Surgery. The facility is beautiful, and every member of the staff that I have encountered so far has been super friendly and helpful. If you are seeking some kind of cosmetic injectables, do yourself a favor and make an appointment with Linda asap! I tend to be a 'Nervous Nelly' and can't help but ask millions of questions, but she was patient, friendly, and knowledgeable. Above all else, your comfort and complete satisfaction is her priority!!!"- A.C. / Yelp / Dec 14, 2018
Who is a good candidate?
You’re a good candidate for IPL (Photofacial) treatment if you are looking to reduce visible signs of aging or if you are bothered by skin discoloration caused by:
- Sun damage
- Other pigment problems like broken capillaries and rosacea
Is M22 IPL Treatment Safe?
Lumenis treatments are developed by laser medical experts, and all treatments, including M22 IPL (Photofacial), are FDA-approved and clinically proven to get results. Advanced technology allows your clinician to adjust the settings according to your skin type, skin color, and the specific skin treatment you choose.
What happens in a Session?
Your IPL (Photofacial) treatment should not take more than 45 minutes. It is a quick, in-office procedure with minimum discomfort. Your clinician will apply topical numbing cream to your face. This cream will need to incubate—sit on the skin—for 20 to 30 minutes so that your skin can absorb it. You may experience a warm sensation as the light is applied to your skin, but the treatment is very gentle.
Plan Your Procedure
What can i expect?
For 2 to 24 hours, you may feel and see your skin flushing. Sometimes patients experience very mild swelling, depending on how sensitive their skin is. Freckles and hyper-pigmented lesions will turn darker and look dry for four to seven days and then start flaking off gradually and naturally. If you have a vascular lesion that is treated, you may develop some bruising, which is more common when vascular lesions are treated off face areas.
How long till i see results?
The normal recovery period varies between two and five days, depending on your skin sensitivity and the treatment performed, but you can expect to see a substantial difference in hyper-pigmented lesions, vascular lesions, and your overall skin texture within one week of treatment.
For some conditions, it may take a few sessions to see the best results. In general, the heavier your skin blemishes, the more treatments you’ll need. The staff at North Texas Plastic Surgery can give you an idea of this when you come in for a consultation.
How Long do the Results Last?
M22 IPL (Photofacial) treatments are simultaneously gentle and very effective. After you have completed the treatment plan that you and your clinician determine during your consultation, you can have one session of IPL (Photofacial) once a year as maintenance, if you choose to.
Your results will last longer if you take good care of your skin by using a good antioxidant and sunscreen, as well as avoiding sun exposure as much as possible.
While IPL treats existing skin problems, it doesn’t prevent new ones from developing. For instance, if you get treated for sun-damaged skin, you’ll still need to take steps to prevent sun damage in the future.
