The eyes are one of the first areas to develop wrinkles due to aging. Many men and women complain of bags under the eyes, and loose and hanging skin on the upper eyelid. Blepharoplasty is a cosmetic eyelid surgery that is performed to correct this. Patients that have this surgery can look refreshed, rejuvenated, and years younger Frisco, TX (and surrounding areas, Plano, Allen, McKinney) blepharoplasty surgeon, Dr. Robert Najera. This surgery removes excess skin and tissue from the upper or lower eyelid to create a softer, younger appearance.

Best Candidates

Eyelid surgery is designed to help patients who feel they have:

  • Excess skin that obscures the natural crease of the upper eyelids
  • Loose skin that hangs down and impairs vision
  • Puffiness that never goes away
  • Bags and circles under the eyes
  • Wrinkles or droopiness of the lower eyelids

Surgical Technique

Eyelid surgery can be performed on the upper or lower eyelids or both. During eyelid surgery, Dr. Najera will remove excess skin and tissue from around the eyes. Once the skin around the eyes has been tightened, he will close the incision with tiny sutures that usually reside under the skin. It is common to combine other treatments with blepharoplasty to achieve maximum results. We can help you maintain your new look with a brow lift or a nonsurgical treatment such as BOTOX. While skin improvements last at least 10 years, the improvement from fat removal is permanent.

During/After Surgery

Eyelid surgery usually takes about 2 hours with the patient under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation. Patients typically leave the same day and can expect temporary side effects like swelling, bruising, some pain, blurred vision, and dry eyes. Dr. Najera will discuss post-operative treatment that consists of ice packs and ointment, during the pre-surgery consultation. Light activity may be resumed 1 -2 weeks after the procedure, but strenuous activity should be avoided for 2 - 3 weeks. All swelling and bruising should be resolved within 1 -2 months and you will see your final results. Patients that come back for their final post-operative appointment look awakened, more alert, and softer in appearance.

Expected Cost

A blepharoplasty that includes the upper and lower eyelids will cost between $3,000 and $7,000. If excess eyelid skin is interfering with a patient’s vision, insurance may pay part or all of the cost.
