Overview

A thigh lift (thighplasty) can remove skin and tissue from the upper, inner, and outer thigh areas to give you a smoother, more youthful look. With a thigh lift, you can achieve what spot training at the gym sometimes can’t fix due to genetics or other reasons. Plastic surgeon, Dr. Robert Najera in Frisco, TX will re-contour the skin and tissue of the thighs to improve the muscle tone and smooth the skin of the thigh to improve the appearance of skin irregularities. Sometimes, thigh lifts can be combined with other cosmetic options, such as a lower body lift, which will address problem areas on the hips and buttocks, too.

Best Candidates

A thigh lift is the best choice for patients whose have loose or sagging skin caused by weight loss or aging. Patients should be at or near their goal weight and they should keep a stable weight after the procedure for best results. A thighplasty will tighten skin in the thigh area, but does not remove fat. Some patients may need a combined procedure that includes the surgical lift and removal of skin, as well as liposuction to remove unwanted pockets of fat.

What To Expect

Dr. Najera will choose an incision point based on the area of the thigh that is being treated, but usually an inconspicuous area in the groin is the starting point. First, the excess skin and tissue will be removed. Next, a lift is performed by tightening and smoothing the remaining tissue and muscle. To improve the overall appearance of the lower body, some patients may want to add a butt lift for more natural and even results. Once you have recovered, cardio and strength training will help maintain and enhance your newly shaped thighs.

During/After Surgery

Thighplasty is performed under general anesthesia and usually takes 2-3 hours. It is usually an outpatient procedure and the patient can leave the same day to complete their recovery at home.  Swelling, bruising, and some pain are normal for 1-2 weeks after the surgery. Patients are usually allowed  to begin limited movement after 2 weeks and more strenuous activity can be done 6-8 weeks after surgery. Final results are usually visible after 3 months and will be permanent if the patient’s weight remains stable. There will be scars from the incisions, but they will fade if the patient follows Dr. Najera’s scar care instructions.

Expected Cost

A typical thigh lift costs $7,500 to $11,000. The total cost will be higher if other surgeries are performed at the same time as the thigh lift.
